Health Research Priorities

The underrepresentation of the South Asian (SA) community in health research can be attributed to disinterest, stigma, lack of belonging, language-related, lack of awareness, and others. Involvement of patients and clinicians in setting research priorities can improve the quality and relevance of research. This approach can also help improve engagement in health research. This study uses the widely accepted “James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership (JLA-PSP)” approach to determine the top health research priorities of the South Asian community in the Fraser Valley, British Columbia.

This is an exploratory research study that follows the methodology outlined by the JLA-PSP. Partnerships were established with community groups and surveys were conducted in English/Punjabi/Hindi. Health research uncertainties were collected and similar questions were collated together. Uncertainties that do not require additional research were removed. The lead author of this study is Aven Sidhu, the previous SAHRC coordinator.
