South Asian Health Research Collaborative
We strive to support and connect researchers with knowledge users in order to improve health research among people of South Asian ancestry
The South Asian Health Research Collaborative (SAHRC) was formed to address an identified gap in representation from the South Asian (SA) community in Canadian health research studies. Beginning with a community centered priority setting process, SAHRC is now striving to link researchers, health stakeholders, and SA community members with the goal to enhance inclusion and improve engagement of South Asians in health research. In addition, SAHRC offers to serve as a hub for sharing best practices, developing equitable and inclusive methods for engaging South Asians in health research, and addressing the diversity present in the South Asian diaspora.
Our Objectives
1) To identify health research priorities of the South Asian community and build community relationships to address these research priorities
2) To build and expand bridges between researchers, research trainees, and members of the South Asian community at large in order to better include folks of South Asian ancestry in Canadian health research
3) To improve the sharing of knowledge about South Asian health between knowledge finders and knowledge users, as well as identify best practices in research with folks of South Asian ancestry and other racialized people

We respectfully acknowledge that SAHRC operates on the unceded and traditional homelands of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the Musqueam, Squamish, Tseil-Waututh, Matsqui, Kwantlen, Katzie, Semiahmoo, Kwikwetlem, and Tsawwassen First Nations. These people have stewarded the land for centuries while enduring immense injustice and harm. We strive to engage in reciprocal relationships, learn from their wisdom, and stand in solidarity with the work of decolonization.
We also like to acknowledge those who migrated from South Asia to Canada/Turtle Island; some for particular opportunities, many out of necessity in order to escape various social and political oppression. We recognize the diversity in the South Asian diaspora, and acknowledge the differences in lived experiences among those with South Asian ancestry.
